    Our Success Stories

We serve hundreds of people each year.  Here are some of their stories. We’ve omitted last names for privacy purposes.

Tina is a disabled, single grandparent who is raising two grandsons, ages 3 and 4.  Her daughter-in-law is in jail and her son is not involved in raising her grandchildren.  Tina  reached out to our center two years ago.  We connected her with food stamps and TANF (temporary assistance to needy families) to help her support her grandchildren.  We also connected her grandchildren to Globeville Headstart and were able to get them free Denver Parks and Recreation passes.  We are now helping to support her through the legal process of adopting her two grandchildren.

Tina has been so impressed with the work that we’ve done to help support her family that she even volunteers on our Family to Family Denver Community Board.  In her own words, “This is the first time I’ve ever received real family support, and we wouldn’t know what to do without your center.”

Dora came to Family to Family Denver seeking to learn English.  Cross Community Coalition linked her with English as a Second Language (ESL) classes and taught her how to use specific computer programs.  She also participated in Spanish Parenting classes and joined the Las Madres Grupo (parent education support group for mothers).  The resource center in north Denver also helped her develop her resume and find a better job.  Dora has been very happy with the services that she received that she frequently tells other people about the programs Cross Community Coalition offers.

Christine was having learning problems at Garden Place Elementary School.  The school referred the child  for help.  An educational liaison stepped in to support the girl by providing advocacy and support.

It was also learned that her father had substance abuse issues and was placed in jail for domestic violence.  Once the father was released, Family to Family Denver North connected him to counseling and rehab services.  He has now been 1 year sober thanks to the collaborative effort.  The family is doing well.

A domestic violence situation forced Georgina and her son into a Team Decision Making (TDM) meeting (similar to a round table discussion where the community, family and social services come together to come up with a safety and treatment plan).  During the TDM, her son was placed in foster care and Georgina removed from the unsafe living situation.  Since then, both she and her son have been reunited.

In Georgina’s words, “It took my experience with the Team Decision Making meeting with everyone involved to determine to finally move and end the (violent) situation.”

A proud member of the Family Resource Center Association.
